Dragged
Today wasn't yesterday. It's what every surfer (or surf photographer fears). Ella had a cracker (and by the sounds of it, half the locals) yesterday at the local. But it wasn't ment to be today. Straighter, less swell. But that didn't stop the masses, and if you were...
Big Breeze
An after work shoot turned into ducking and weaving through the cyclonic Northerly that was bashing the cars and creating some epic spray. The boys were amongst it, making it look amazing... the swell had picked up which was a brilliant sight to witness.
Howler
That northerly was howling this morning. So, we headed to somewhere protected. I was surprised about how few people were out. Ella scored some super fun waves, and the vibes were great. Keen for more fun on the weekend. 🙂
Misty Morning
Rocked up to the beach with zero wind. Which is fantastic when the prediction was NW. What this means as a photographer though is sea mist. Sea Mist clouds the ocean and until a wind comes (which happened around 7:30am) it makes it very tricky to shoot, because you...
Attack of the Jelly
Today had some drama! Recent currents have inundated the beach with Jelly's, From what I heard this made for some surprises in the water whilst paddling. If that wasn't enough, a 6ft puppy swam between some surfers on the south end and sent everyone cautiously back to...
Burners in the bay
Ohhhhh it was a hot one. What is with this full blown summer weather in October? Wow. The north part of the north westerly this morning was holding off, enough so that the local was in full swing. It wasn't pretty, but it was very busy. Grabbed a couple of frames...
Back into the groove
We are back from a week in Central Queensland. Aaaaaannnnndddd nothing has changed. 1ft clean rollers coming through the beach at the local this morning. With 4 days of predicted northerlies incoming we knew today would be a "regardless" surf. Vibes were high. Waves...
Bright Lights
I am loving these early sun mornings, and with day light savings coming, it feels bitter sweet. I love being able to do more before work. Surf, hang with kids, even a work out. This morning saw a slight bump up in swell, but it came with a bit less form. A tad too...
Another day in paradise
There was a slight bump in the swell. Not a lot. A slight bump. It was enough to bring out the shortboarders to the northern end of the local, whilst the longboarders stayed on the south side of the beach. And I had some beautiful chats with people this morning. It...
Mini Monday
This morning continued what we had on Sunday. Beautiful skies, clear water, sun glistening and the most miniature waves on offer. It might have been 10-15cm bigger. But that's about it. Not much going on, but didn't stop the Monday masses.
Shine
I have said a few times in the last month "this is the smallest ive seen it all year..." but this morning took the cake. There was barely a murmur. But that didn't stop people taking in the glorious sun, the clearest of waters and the highest of stokes. It was a...
Surf Mums
Sea Chapel surf mums group has official kicked off! We battled the Northerly and the girls got a play in the ocean with some catching some much needed mum-time waves. Others got the swim they needed. We laughed, we ate, the kids ate sand. It was great for everyone. ...
Rage of the point
A weekend away at the most epic wave ever. We headed south for the weekend to take in some sun, some waves and some fun. In another blog post I'll share some of the work i did for Nalu Surf Retreats, which was the motivator for the weekend away. But I got in plenty of...
Tales of the Slow
It's been a slow and low start to September. The previous swell pulse has evaporated by the spring air. The mornings have been beautiful, but have lead me to think we might need a Sea Chapel Splash Club (for those who like a swim, dip, frolic, splash) in the mornings...
Dregs
"What a perfect day for surfing the dregs" - my wife. We headed north, and so did everyone else (im sure came south from Byron). Ella got a few very fun waves just catching "the dregs". Others battled the highway to grab a couple of waves for themselves. Vibes were...
Slow Saturday
That swell drop off was real. A real slow Saturday at ol' faithful. 1ft runners coming through every so often. Didn't stop our friends from having smiles and enjoying the sun! Bring on the swell bump tomorrow (fingers crossed).
Friday Fun
It was another stunner of a morning on the Coffs Coast. With a drop in swell and little to no winds, and no clouds in the sky, you know it was going to produce some fun shots. I had close friend of mine (Neve) with me and the boys this morning, and she may have caught...
Leeward
The wind was up and northerly, so that means checking two spots, BUT the boys really wanted to keep building a cubby at a particular beach, and I'm glad it was just one of the two protected beaches. Not a lot of people out, I'm assuming the other protected beach...
Monday Cleans
This morning was picturesque! Little to no wind. Some left over swell and clean lines and water clarity. It was the perfect Monday setup. Kids were playing, and i just sat shooting lefts to start the week. We can only hope for more.
At Home
We are back baby! (for now) It has been a while. Ive moved my sister in law's house. It has rained. Ive been to Brisbane and back. Its been more rain. It's just been a lot. It was just nice to stand still, on the beach and absorb the sun. The left was working a...
Novelty
We got through the rainy weekend, and now onto the week. Monday had some gloom, but Tuesday and Wednesday mornings have been bright. Ive been checking the local spots but the only thing close to working (and i use that term loosely) is the Summer Cyclone Novelty...
